Monthly Archives: February 2010

I have been anticipating this movie even since it was delayed last October and pushed back to February. I must say, it was well worth the wait. It’s hard to talk about the movie and not reviel spoilers, but I shall do my best. Leonardo DiCaprio plays the protagonist “Teddy Daniels” who is an U.S Marshall sent to investigate Shutter Island after an inmate suddenly disappears over night. Once Teddy arrives, things start to automatically turn for the worse, and things are never what they seem. That’s pretty much all I can say about story without giving anything away.

You have to see this movie. It is the by far the best movie of 2010 so far and i recommend this to any horror/thriller fan, also anyone who is interested in a good story, with good actors and a satisfying ending.

Wow. Sony sure does make some awful choices from time to time. Their latest misguided invention is the Psp GO.

When a gamer wants something, they want it right away. The PSP GO was supposed to do all that. but instead what it has done is confuse gamers and previous psp console owners. Lets run down some features.

CONS:

1) No UMDS. aka. If you own previous PSP games then there is no way you can play those. The new PSP GO focus’ on straight to drive games, meaning you get a 16 GB hard drive with your PSP GO and all the games are stored on that. The only way to get a game is to make  a Sony network account and download the games from them.
2) PRICE. The PSP GO is 249.99 cdn! Thats 80 Dollars  more than a PSP 3000. It’s like, whats the point? another 50 dollars I could get a Sony PS3 for 299.99 and that has a Blu Ray Player.

3) The Glossy finish is prone to Dirt and smudges. This thing is going to get dirty REALLY fast.

4) NO 2nd joystick. This one baffles me. It’s almost like Sony is against shooting games. No 2nd joystick makes that genre feel completely unplayable on the PSP GO.

PROS:

1) This thing is sexy. It feels so nice in your hands and is very portable. Bringing your games around with you is easier then ever!

2) The idea of having games stored on a hard drive is a nice one.
3) IT also has very easy connectivity with your PS3

Conclusion:

All in all the PSP is a mixed bag. That bag being filled with bad candy you get after Halloween and eventually throw in the garbage. I mean Sony just slapped everyone in the face who previously owns a PSP 3000. The is no reason for anyone who already owns a PSP to go out and buy a PSP GO. Its too expensive, it’s too lacking in features to warrant 250 bucks.
If you don’t own a PSP, then the PSP GO might be an ok purchase but not at the current price point. Wait for it to to drop to atleast 199.99 before you think about it.

I work at Future Shop and we haven’t sold one in a week and this thing just launched. A brand new consumer gadget should make you WANT it, not think about whether it’s worth value or not. Fail.

THANKS FOR READING GUIZE!

When it comes to thriller movies today, no one tries to re-invent an idea. Many movies today are now squeals or movies greatly influenced off of old movies. The amount of effort to develop a new idea seems like too much work for film makers. They have a good motive, why take all the time to develop a new idea when they could just take 3 of their favorite movies, and combine them.

Law Abiding Citizen stars Gerald Butler, who plays a grieving father who has had his wife and daughter killed 10 years in the past. Jamie Foxx plays a lawyer who settled the case letting one of the murders serve only 3 years in prison. After 10 years, Gerald Butler’s character comes back to seek his own bloody revenge. At the begininng of the film, you feel for Butler’s character, and you want to see him spread havoc through the justice system, but near the movies closing, your not so sure. the moral choices he makes could be classifid as good and evil. As an audience member, your torn on who to root for. all in all, this is a very smart thriller and it certainly is refreshing to see a new idea for a genre like this.

Go see it. 8.5/10

When it comes to gaming today, you have a bunch of choices. Whether is be xbox or ps3 or mobile devices like the i Phone or the Nintendo DS. Everyone plays games on some sort of system. Personally I play my xbox and go on xbox live every night. The xbox 360 has turned playing games by yourself into a full online community. To me it’s the perfect social platform for me and my friends. It’s good to know I can log in everynight and have them all there. No matter what, If  im playing something by myself im still in a ‘xbox party’ so im still chatting with  my group of friends. Even if i’m watching a movie and my friends are playing games, we are all still connected.

Xbox live also just added face book and twitter so at any time I can udate my status about what im playing or what im doing on xbox live.

It truly is the best source of online gaming available. And the games are far superior to anything available. Most people use facebook or myspace to stay connected. I have many friends on facebook but there’s a difference between people on a list and people in my life. I know who my true close friends are, cause I share an experience with them, almost every night on xbox live.

till’ next time.

This is not good. Here we are so close to graduating and they drop this on us. I feel bad for a buddy I know. Algonquin College went on strike no less then 4 years ago and he had to go through that., now this again. Apparently the new strike deadline is February 11th. So as i sit here, we have to wait and see whats going to happen. The only good part of this strike date is that its right before our reading week, so if the strike doesn’t last very long, we’ll only be missing a few days. Oh well, time to sit back and see what happens.

TRON's BLOG

HEY GUYS AND GIRLS!

First off let’s look at exactly what a ‘torrent’ is.

“A torrent is a small file usually ending with the file extension .torrent. You use the .torrent file with a BitTorrent client. BitTorrent itself is a peer-to-peer file sharing protocol. The .torrent file is used to get a larger file you want from the peer-to-peer network using the BitTorrent client that “understands” the BitTorrent protocol.”

Now…Using Torrents is 100% legal. Period. But it depends what your linked to downloading through the torrent. If you’re downloading a torrent that is linked to non-copyrighted material it’s legal. BUT if that torrent is linked to a piece of copyrighted material then yes, downloading that piece of material can be considered illegal.

Bad

Recently a 4 guys were arrested in Sweden for maintaining a torrent website called “The Pirate Bay”. The 4 men were charged with working as a team in ‘assisting in making copyright content available’. The 4 men ( Peter Sunde, Fredrik Neij, Gottfrid Svartholm and Carl Lundström) were sentenced to receive one year in jail. They also must pay $3.6 million in damages.

Now what Pirate Bay does is not host copyrighted material, but gives users access to music and film files by matching file seekers with PCs that host the files with what are called torrents. The site is completely free and the only real money The Pirate Bay earns is from it’s advertising.

Of course this does not end here with the 4 men filling an appeal, that jail time might get over turned. It’s very interesting that these 4 men were charged. The website is still up and running right now as I write this. What the entertainment industry has to understand is that if The Pirate Bay gets shut down, you still have hundreds of other sites on the internet that all do that same thing. You can’t arrest everyone.

In conclusion, there is no real way to stop something like this from occurring. When people want something, they are going to get it. It funny though how something like stealing a movie off the internet is socially acceptable, but if you steal a purse off a lady it isn’t. Isn’t it the same thing? I believe an example was trying to be mad her with the guys from The Pirate Bay, but the thing is, the site is still up and running and will never be taken down, so in the end it’s a never ending battle with no real outcome in sight.

Good
Me personally, I buy movies and music. there’s something about owning the packaging i love. I also love brand new sealed things, and the enjoyment of opening them. In shor im a huge collector. But in most cases that’s not enough for people and it’s a shame. In todays tough times, i understand why people would use torrent to steal music and movies, its fast, you don’t have to leave your house and most impotantly, it’s free. The entertainment industry is going to have to come up with something fast, their profits are going to decline at an expendential rate.
